Lount Township

This township is in Parry Sound district in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It has three small hamlets of Rye, Mecunoma and Wattenwyl. Rye is where my father's father family is from and Wattenwyl is where my father's mother family is from.

Rye is located at the intersection of Nippissing Trail and Jericho Road. My grandparent’s house was the local post office when I was a child. Just south of this intersection on the Nippissing Trail, is the Rye cemetery. Just north of the Cemetery, was the local school house where my father went to school. My Great-Grandparents, Jacob Albin Brunner and is second wife, Marie Stukey, came to Rye in 1894. My Grandparents, Herman Albin Brunner and Clara Marie Fahrig, married in Rye, in 1912, and bought a farm there.

Wattenwyl or Wattenwyle is near Mud Lake off the Deer Lake Road. There is also a small cemetery at this place. This is where my grandmother, Clara Marie Fahrig was born.

Mecunoma is at Eagle Lake Road and Nipissing Trail. It is also called Bummer's Roost. It was named for Richard "Dick" Mannering.

I have a brief pedigree on this site. Also, my whole family tree, is at wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ with a database name of "brunnsu".

Audrey Michel Hicks has written a book on Lount Township called "Wait for me Awhile, Memories of Lount". This book is available in the local government office in South River and is published by Creative Edge.
